A business, also known as a firm or enterprise, is by definition an organisation which is involved in selling services, goods, or both, to the public. Capitalist economies rely heavily on businesses, where the majority of them are privately owned. As well as being privately funded, a business may also be state owned or not for profit.

A business which is owned by more than one individual may be a partnership or company. The term "business" may also refer to a trading sector, e.g. "the retail business". The largest companies worldwide in terms of revenue of 2015 are:

1. Walmart.
2. Sinopec Group.
3. Total.
4. China National Petroleum Corps.
5. Royal Dutch Shell.
6. Exxon Mobil.
7. Saudi Aramco.
8. BP.
9. State Grid Corps of China.
10. Samsung.
